Описание к видео 116-year-old Mexican woman deemed too old for bank card l Latest News l

This Video Has been A Citigroup branch in Guadalajara, Mexico, refused a 116-year-old Mexican woman the bank card she needed to collect monthly welfare benefits because she was too old.

Maria Felix, who turns 117 in July, went three months without state support for the elderly, after Citibanamex turned her down for exceeding the age limit for bank cards, Reuters reported.

New transparency rules require welfare recipients to have their own bank accounts, Miguel Castro, development secretary for the state of Jalisco said, Reuters reported.

“They told me the limit was 110 years,” Felix told Reuters.
Felix operates a candy stand outside of her small home, and had been relying on modest sales to support herself, in the absence of her monthly 1,200 peso ($63) check from the state of Jalisco.

Citibanamex blamed its failure to issue Felix a bank card on its system’s “calibration limits,” according to Reuters.

When Castro found out about the problem, he intervened. He hand delivered a check — and an apology — to Felix.
“Sooner or later, God provides,” Felix said.Castro said that his office would continue to give Felix checks until the issue was resolved.

Felix, who was born in 1900, has outlived six of her 10 children. She has 20 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren, according to the Mexican newspaper Reforma.

Felix said she’s not worried about receiving state support. “Whether they give me help or not, I’ll be as happy as I have been all of my poor life,” she told Reuters.
