About the Paraiba Tourmaline :

The first deposit was discovered in the 1980s in the Brazilian state of Paraíba by a miner named Heitor Barbosa.
In 2001, another deposit of blue-green copper tourmaline was discovered in Nigeria, followed by a third in Mozambique.

The Paraiba Tourmaline is renowned for its vibrant colors, ranging from neon blue to vivid green. This rare and precious gemstone is highly sought after in the world of jewelry and by gem collectors. ✨

The main Brazilian mines producing Paraíba tourmalines are Mulungu and Altos dos Quintos, located 45 kilometers further north in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. These are the main sources of gem-quality Paraíba tourmalines for the jewelry market.

In 2001, Paraiba tourmalines were discovered in Nigeria (Edoko region) and others were discovered in Mozambique.

Gem production from the Mulungu mine is estimated at 1,000 grams per year.
By way of comparison, 10,000 times more diamonds are mined worldwide than Paraíba tourmalines which explains the high price of this gem.
