UPDATE: Rollin' & Scratchin' aerosol edition out now:    • Daft Punk's Alive 2027 possible rehea...

In this video, I’m jamming to Daft Punk’s "Rollin' & Scratchin'," using the Behringer Crave for the bassline and the Sonicware Liven Lofi-12 for TR-909 samples and MIDI control. The setup includes the Aria Pro 2 Ultra Metal Distortion Pedal for added high-gain texture. The audio is recorded on a Yamaha MT-50 4-track cassette recorder with light EQ adjustments on a Fuji FX II CD-60 tape.

I grew up listening to Homework thanks to my uncle's CD collection, and "Rollin' & Scratchin'" really hit me hard when I first heard Alive 1997. I've been obsessed with this track ever since. This quick step-by-step tutorial was long overdue.

🎹 About the Behringer Crave Semi-Modular Synth:
Not my favorite synth, but always a pleasure to play, especially when I need a reliable analog tool for a quick bassline. It's effective and quiet. I have yet to connect my Behringer Edge with it, but once I do, the party will finally begin.

⏺️ About the Sonicware Liven Lofi-12 sampler and MIDI controller:
My loyal jack-of-all-trades. It's my go-to tool to record, edit, and chop samples, play and edit sequences, and control others over MIDI. Its smart MIDI implementation allows for recording motion sequences, just like one would on a Korg Volca or the Roland S-1. The TR-909 samples have been directly captured from my Novation Drumstation.

🔊 About the Aria Pro 2 Ultra Metal Distortion Pedal:
A classic MIJ layout for this pedal released in the 1980s and one of the latest additions to my effects units collection. Mine is branded "Dinosaur", it's a fun detail. The EQ is great, and the amount of gain makes my cleanest amps sound like high-gain beasts. Sources say that on the original track, a Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal was used by Thomas Bangalter, and I truly believe so. These two are similar, if not the same.

🎛️ About the Audio Transfer:
Yamaha MT-50 4-track cassette recorder with light EQ to compensate for potential loss
Fuji FX II CD-60 (1979, Type 2 Chrome)
Behringer MIC500 USB (Brimar 12AU7 - ECC82)
Audacity & Adobe Premiere Pro 2024
