Dozens have been killed and injured in Gaza, despite US President Donald Trump’s claims that Israel has agreed to pause the bombardment of the enclave to facilitate a potential ceasefire deal.
The IDF has eased its operation to capture Gaza City, but its air strikes are still ongoing.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to an initial withdrawal to certain lines, while Hamas is demanding a complete and immediate removal of Israeli troops from the territory.
Israel’s far-right Home Security Minister and Foreign Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich remain critical of the deal, with the former threatening to quit the coalition government.
Middle East correspondent Mathew Doran says while this is the closest the two sides have come to a ceasefire deal in months, residents are still anxious the it could collapse.
