Origin of the name BEETLE The previous BEETLE was a hydrofoil ferry, which ran with the hydrofoil lifting the hull above the sea water. The hydrofoil stayed underwater while running, however, when it was pulled up, it looked like the horn of a beetle. That is why the ferry was named BEETLE.
