Описание к видео Unexpected Guest in My Backyard Pool… 🐍

When you live in the desert community of Borrego Springs, California, you never know what might turn up in your backyard pool. Creepy, crawly, and downright weird things are all part of the deal in this small desert community located within Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

On What’s That In My Pool?!, see what strange, scary, and just-plain-weird things find their way into the water.

What This Appears to Be

Shovel-Nosed Snake (according to a Google Lens search... if you think it got it wrong, leave a comment!)

Live or Dead?

Alive! Caught with the net and released back into the oleander bushes outside the yard.

Fun Facts About Shovel-Nosed Snakes

Specialized Snout – They get their name from their flattened, shovel-like snout, which helps them dig through sand and loose soil.

Small and Slim – Most shovel-nosed snakes are small, rarely exceeding 18 inches, making them excellent burrowers.

Desert Dwellers – They thrive in arid and sandy environments, such as deserts in the southwestern U.S.

Nocturnal Hunters – These snakes are mostly active at night, hunting for insects, small lizards, and sometimes baby snakes.

Camouflage Experts – Their sandy coloration allows them to blend perfectly with desert terrain, making them hard to spot.

Mildly Venomous – Shovel-nosed snakes have mild venom used to subdue prey, but they are generally harmless to humans.

Secretive Burrowers – They spend most of their time underground, surfacing mostly during warm nights.

Egg Layers – Most species are oviparous, laying eggs in sandy burrows or under debris.

Smooth Movers – Their smooth scales help them glide easily through sand without getting stuck.

Desert Adapted – They can survive in extremely dry conditions, often going long periods without water.
