It is the product of delta mass from the axis of rotation multiplied with square of the distance from the axis. An integration over the XYZ dimension of the mass gives the I value or the moment of inertia. Parallel axis theorem also often termed as the perpendicular axis theorem is an easy way of establishing moment of inertia about any axis if the moment of inertia is know through some other axis.
