Discussion following the showing of The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia. A documentary film by James Redford sponsored by Charleston Montessori School and The Appalachian Reading Center on November 20, 2014 at Taylor Books in Charleston, West Virginia.

The documentary directed by James Redford and produced by Windy Borman & James Redford, explores the myths and truths of dyslexia, showing the bigger picture on the most common learning difference for children. Discussion will follow the screening with Lori Dubrawka, executive director of The Appalachian Reading Center.

"By conservative estimates, one in five people are dyslexic. Although very bright and often highly creative, they have a difficult time making sense of written language. This film reveals that dyslexia is a neurological issue, not a character flaw. It explains that the struggle with the written word is not an indication of one’s ability to think, to create, or to solve problems – all valuable skills in the world outside the classroom.
