Foldforming: Making a Heistad Cup with no seams in less than five minutes

Foldforming: This is a short video of making a Heistad Cup. This is one of my favorite foldforms. It makes a cup, from flat sheet, with no seams, in under five minutes. It is the epitomy of foldforming. Traditionally trained goldsmiths will turn the cup around looking for the join, but there is none. This is about the plasticity of metal. There are a number of other ways of folding sheet metal up and putting it through the rolling mill to get a magical result. This one is really cool. If you have different colored metals on each side (like using 18k bimetal) then the outside is one color and the inside another. There are a number of other similarly made Rolled Folds.

The steps for this basic Heistad Cup are:
Cut a square.
Anneal.
Fold in half on the diagonal and then again. Tighten.
No need to re-anneal at this point. You can go right to the rolling mill. The closed point of the fold should go in first
Roll the folded triangle until you think the proportions look pretty (often double or more from the original length).
Anneal it again.
Using chain nose pliers to grip a small piece of each opposite side, pull it open.
Then use your fingers to manipulate the cup and refine the final shape.
