Small Talk Symposium | Meet the Miniaturist S1E11

Описание к видео Small Talk Symposium | Meet the Miniaturist S1E11

Our first Small Talk Symposium included Louise Krasniewicz and Thomas Doyle. We asked each guest to choose a topic to discuss relating to our favorite subject (miniatures!) and opened the chat box to comments and questions from attendees.

Louise Krasniewicz is an artist, author and educator. In her "Miniature Manifesto." she says "what miniaturists are doing is making worlds, not just scaled objects. World-making is an activity carried our by artists, musicians, gamers, filmmakers, writers, poets and novelists, city planners, amusement park designers, and anyone who sets up a place or space for exploring alternative ways of being in the world."

In this Zoominar, Louise talks about what miniature do...they create an alternative universe (whether they are realistic or not) that invite the viewer
to share stories from that universe.

For more on the Louise's philosophy of miniatures head over the https://thewonderofminiatures.home.blog/ and for more images of her work go to The Shrunken Place at https://krazyminiatures.com/ .

Thomas Doyle is an artist and creator. His work has been seen in the New Yorker and The New York Times. He was recently commissioned by the American Arkology Society to create miniature scenes based on evidence uncovered in "Ark discoveries" bringing future scenes to life in present day.

For more info about the Arkology and more photographs of the miniature models, go to https://www.arkologysociety.org/ - this is the oldest research organization dedicated to the field.

Darren Scala took on a topic as well and talked about how miniatures are becoming a pop culture phenomenon.
