STL Academy
Founded in 2015 with a vision to streamline training activities, the Academy aims to train professionals to correctly deploy Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) and develop the Right Skills in them, in order to build a skilled workforce across India in the Optic Fiber Network domain. On track to training 15,000 highly skilled professionals in deploying complex optical fibre networks, STL Academy addresses the industry’s skills shortage
STL Academy is an endeavour by Sterlite Technologies Ltd - STL a global leader in end-to-end data network solutions, to create an ecosystem of highly skilled professionals in deploying and maintaining complex optical-fibre networks. It is now the first fibre programme in India to be endorsed by FTTH Council APAC. In the last 10 months alone, STL Tech Academy has trained and certified 1,500 people and is all set to blaze a trail of 15,000 skilled, certified and employable professionals in the coming year. With over 40,000 hours of teaching, these programs were held all over the country, the most prominent one being the training of over 400 Army personnel in remote-border and sub-zero areas of Leh and Ladakh to maintain the Network for a Spectrum fibre network in Jammu & Kashmir.
Today, telcos and citizen networks are building new and extensive networks for FTTx, 4/5G, IoT and other applications. At the same time, large enterprises such as the Defense are modernising their current mission-critical networks. These require innovative technology, such as bend-insensitive solutions, which need specialised deployment skills. A lack of such skills is an industry recognised challenge and is being addressed by STL Academy.

The people who undergo the Academy’s programs are:
• STL’s partner operators,
• STL’s own project engineers, and
• Army personnel involved in Network For Spectrum (NFS) maintenance
Training Programs
The professionals undergo intensive training on programs that pertain to:
• Best deployment practices
• Troubleshooting
• Network maintenance
• Depending on the intricacy and complexity involved, the programs are divided into three levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 and the duration goes up from 2 days to 3 to 4 with each next level. There is a special program for the army which is the longest and it is designed to be 5 days long.
In each program, the emphasis is laid on hands-on technical training, which makes up 70% of the session. The lecture/ demonstration takes up the remaining 30%. About 20-30 people attend a session on average. These sessions are held all over India at various STL project sites, including those in J&K, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Telangana.

Internship Programs
In a first, STL Academy is set to launch Pre-employment/ Internship Programs assessed and certified by international certification bodies on the various aspects of OFC installation. For the inaugural batch, the Academy’s goal is to induct and graduate 200-250 engineering students, following which the interns will receive opportunities to work at STL and partners of STL.
