THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET (Dignity Personified) Jazz History #53

Описание к видео THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET (Dignity Personified) Jazz History #53

The name of the Modern Jazz Quartet was in some ways a misnomer (though not intended to be), considering that the finely-crafted style of contrapuntal arrangements coupled with their besuited and serious demeanor was more reminiscent of a classical chamber ensemble than the bebop band from which they sprung. However, they were forward-seeking in the melding of classical and jazz that was labeled Third Stream. After a couple of personnel changes in the early years the quartet remained consistent for decades, making them one of the most long-lived and popular jazz groups, and one of the more unique.

ABOUT THIS SERIES
The Jazz History series is a video adaptation of a PowerPoint presentation used to teach a university course. It traces the roots of jazz from Ragtime at the turn of the 20th century to jazz-rock fusion at the end of the 1960s. You’ll find a lot more videos like this one in the JAZZ HISTORY playlist on this channel.
