Описание к видео This man became one of the richest men in India by trading opium to China

This man became one of the richest men in India by trading opium to China
He was Born in 1783 in Navsari, Gujarat, was a Parsi orphan who moved to Bombay at a young age.
With no inheritance or formal education, he worked his way up as a merchant.
He traded in everything from cotton to tea to ships. His success earned him the nickname ‘Merchant Prince of Bombay
Jejeebhoy was also involved in the opium trade.
Here’s how it worked: The British East India Company grew opium in Bengal and Bihar. Indian merchants, including Jejeebhoy, supplied this opium to China, where it was smuggled and sold despite Chinese laws banning it.
This trade caused massive addiction in China, leading to the First Opium War between Britain and the Qing Dynasty in 1839.
But he mainly remembered as a pioneer in philanthropy, building hospitals, schools, roads, and even funded water reservoirs to ensure clean drinking water for mumbai.
He was the first Indian to be knighted by the British crown, becoming Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy in 1842."
Jejeebhoy’s life teaches us that history isn’t black and white—it’s a spectrum of choices, challenges, and contributions. What will your legacy be?
