The BBC is facing a backlash after England goalkeeper Mary Earps was crowned Sports Personality of the Year ahead of snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan and cricketer Stuart Broad.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper was a key part of the Lionesses side which reached the Women’s World Cup final in the summer and won FIFA’s Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper at the tournament.

TalkTV’s Ian Collins is joined by former BBC producer John Mair to discuss the story.

He says: “There’s not really a row here. The public voted for her.”
