We run through how the dividend for BDCs can be so high, then we’re going to look at two different BDCs to get an idea of what BDCs tend to do, then we’ll look quickly at where BDCs could fit in our portfolio. OK so let’s start with the very basics. What is a BDC? a business development company is a publicly-traded fund that is essentially a private equity fund or a venture capital fund. so generally BDC’s focus on middle-market companies. middle-market companies can broadly be defined as companies that are valued somewhere between 100 million and a billion dollars.
