Shelter is one of the most basic needs of mankind. Research into unknown territories, which is to say their exploration, is always a matter of how well one can adapt to the conditions on the ground and advance further.

Creating shelter from an absolute minimum of materials makes use of pragmatic technology while simultaneously appealing to one of the most primary instincts of man: to satisfy his innate urge to discover and settle unspoiled land.

The Solid State of Matter, a tent-like structure of ice, was erected at a key point during the biennale expedition. When the vessel moved on, the structure was broken down and wrapped up, so that no traces were left behind.
