The Center for Reproducible Biomedical Modeling hosted the inaugural seminar in the series "Data Use in Systems Biology: FAIR Principles and Applications" on June 28, 2024. This seminar featured Dr. Pedro Mendes, Director of the Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling at UConn Health, presenting “Reproducibility and FAIR Principles: The Case of a Segment Polarity Network Model.”

Dr. Mendes discussed the implementation of FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) principles through a case study on the Segment Polarity Network model. As a biochemist, Dr. Mendes focuses on developing, disseminating, and using computer models and simulations for biochemical networks and biological processes. He created the Gepasi simulator, succeeded by the widely used COPASI software, and developed methods for applying optimization algorithms in biochemical modeling, including model calibration and parameter estimation. His recent work emphasizes iron metabolism.

Dr. Mendes joined UConn Health in 2014 and became the Director of the Richard D. Berlin Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling in 2020.
