Delayed Post-operative Bowel Perforation with Resulting Septic Shock

Описание к видео Delayed Post-operative Bowel Perforation with Resulting Septic Shock

AB_A_1018
3D animation visualizing the patient suffering from a post-operative bowel perforation and subsequent septic shock. Post surgery, portions of the small bowel become encased in adhesions. This weakened tissue tears allowing bowel contents to flow out into the abdomen. The leakage of bowel fluid caused peritonitis to occur surrounding the abscess. Circulating blood collects bacteria present in the area of abscess and carries this bacteria throughout the entire body. The bacteria and toxins in the blood stream lead to dilation and weakening of the artery walls allowing fluid to leak out. Systematic dilation of the blood vessels and loss in fluid volume result in a massive decrease in blood pressure and a reduction in the blood flow to vital organs causing a full organ shutdown.
