If you want to transfer to a new college, it’s a good idea to find out how many of your previously earned college credits will be accepted as transfer credits.

When you apply to a university, a transfer credit specialist will perform a transfer credit evaluation. They will tell you how many of your credits will transfer and which credits will apply to your major. You might be able to transfer all your previously earned college credits – maybe be even up to 75% of the total credits required for your degree. However, another school might only accept some of your credits. Each school you apply to will have a different transfer policy.

No matter where you decide to transfer to, there are several important points to consider.

If you previously attended a community college that has a transfer agreement with your new university, then likely all your credits will transfer.

The accreditation of your previous school is also important. If the school is not accredited, the credits probably won’t be accepted by your new college. Some schools have grade requirements in order for your college credits to transfer. For example, you may need to earn a B or better in a course for the credits to be accepted.

If you want to know exactly what college credits will transfer, the best thing to do is apply to the university and get a transfer credit evaluation. That way, you will know for sure which credits will transfer before you make your final decision.
