START UP! While I'm not a personal fan of Boukenger or Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, some of the story elements, weapons, and gear used in the shows were pretty cool. Due to his appearance in Akibaranger, we're given a retail release of the Red Ranger for Boukenger, Bouken Red: Satoru Akashi. He was released in September for ¥3,500, and was the last of the Akibaranger trio to be released, despite being the second to appear in the show. Unfortunately, something just seems off about this figure to me. He feels very plasticy, much like Shadow Moon did. His shoulders are hidden inside the body rather than the exposed shoulders the Dekarangers use, however, this leaves the figure with a rattle like sound when you pose him. This is one of the few figures where I think Bandai's beautiful silver just doesn't cut it. The Boukengers had a lot of chrome on their suits, and I feel like a more metallic, or even chrome, paint would have been better suited. The sculpt is good, there's just something I really don't like about this figure. He does however, make up for his unknown shortcomings in accessories. Included with him is nine additional hands, four additional hands for the Akiba Girls, a holster for the SurviGun, a holstered Accelular, the Accelular in Command Mode, the Accelular in Search Mode, a SurviGun with a peg for the holster, the SurviGun, the SurviBlade, the Bouken Bo, the Bouken Javelin, and finally the Akibaranger bonus: the Bouken Scooper. While there isn't much to comment on with the other weapons, the Bouken Scooper can combine with the Deka Wappa and the Jet Winger to make the "Daisoreta" Cannon, the Akibaranger's final weapon that can have multiple names depending on how you want to translate it. The end result looks pretty nice, and it's something I'm glad they did. Overall, I recommend the figure to Boukenger fanatics, or to Akibaranger fans who want a Chief to pose with their Akibarangers, as well as get the Bouken Scooper. If you're a casual fan, I just can't help but tell you to pass. There are much better Sentai S.H.Figuarts out there like Deka Red, and especially Red Hawk. A figure with nice accessories, just not the best that Bandai can do.
