Walking through Bolton town centre, Sam Smith (Genuine Futures CIC) and Terry Walker (Founder of ‪@terrywalkerthescrappers‬ share how they’re creating new opportunities for young people — and breaking cycles of exclusion, crime, and disadvantage.

The reality is tough:
• Almost 12% of 16–24 year olds are NEET (not in education, employment, or training).
• Care leavers are twice as likely to be unemployed by 21.
• Excluded pupils often fall through the cracks.
• Too many young people end up in the youth justice system, where 75% reoffend within 12 months.

We Shine Any Car offers a way forward — a youth-led enterprise where young people gain multiple opportunities to learn and grow, including:
✅ Car washing & vehicle valeting
✅ Tyre changing & vehicle maintenance
✅ Breaking vehicles for parts & recycling
✅ Customer service, teamwork & business skills

More than just car cleaning, this is about enterprise, hope, and purpose. Young people build transferable skills, positive habits, and pathways into jobs, apprenticeships, or starting their own businesses.
