FAQs

Where do you buy your markers?

I usually buy them at Blick Art Materials, on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles.

At Blick, I think you can get their website prices in store, if you have a membership card with them. It’s free to sign up.

Back in Germany I used to buy them at a store called “Die Tube” in Düsseldorf.

You can also buy the markers online for a good price at

How much does one marker cost?

Mostly Originals and Sketch markers cost about $8 each.
Copic Ciaos cost about $5.50 each.
You can get them cheaper online though! Check out the links I put up there, in the previous answer.

Sometimes it might be smart to buy a set to safe a bit, too

Which Copic Set do you have?

I started with a basic 36 marker set about 10 years ago.
It was a Christmas present from my mother - Thanks mom!! ^-^

After that I bought single Copic Markers over the years, almost every time I went to an art supplies store.

It seems like they don’t sell the set I have anymore. But I think these days some websites offer custom Copic sets, so you could even pick your own colors! I never tried that though. So you would have to google that...

Why do you like the Originals more than the Sketch & Ciao markers?

I think the simple, fine tip is better than the brush tip when it comes to "plain coloring". I like having one solid color on the whole character and it's easier to do that with the Originals in my opinion. Copic Sketch and Ciao might be better for blending, but I don't do that so often... ^-^

“Copic Markers are so expensive!” What should I use, if I just started?

I know, they are a bit pricey, but I think they’re worth it. If you’re a beginner, you could try and start with Copic Ciao markers, if you like the brush tip. ^-^ Another alternative might be other brands, for example Touch markers. I never tried Pro Markers or Winsor & Newton markers, so I can’t say anything about those…

That’s to say, you don’t need fancy markers to have fun doodling!
All you need is any pen or colored pencil you like, paper and some cute ideas ^-^

What paper do you use?

In this video I used a self made sketchbook for the swatches.
It has the same paper as this sketchbook from my Etsy shop:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/28043075...
They were made in Germany and have my all time favorite paper. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! I won’t be back in Germany to remake them anytime soon. xD

The bigger sketchbook, that I used in this video, to show my favorite colors with the help of little characters, is a simple Sumikko Gurashi Notebook, available here:

Do the markers bleed through the paper?

Yes, they do that, almost on every paper. Except for on special marker pads, maybe. I don't like using those so much, because colors tend to look very pale on this type of paper. I always put a blank sheet of paper in between pages in my sketchbook, so I won't color two pages at once, hehe.

Why do you talk so funny?

Even though I live in LA now, I’m originally from Germany
I try my best to get better at speaking English. ^-^

Why do you talk so quietly?

I’m shy.. and it was my first video of this kind. ^-^
I will try to speak louder next time! :D haha

I hope you enjoyed it anyway!
