Officers are already noticing a big difference in I-26 crash statistics just one month into the Johnson City Police Department’s “A Safer 26 in ‘24” campaign.

JCPD officer Nicholas Lyons said that he has seen a difference in the way people are driving on I-26 since the implementation of the campaign. We took a ride with Officer Lyons to see how his daily patrols work to combat dangerous driving.

“I’ve seen a lot of reductions in speed,” Lyons said. “I think the signs that we have out on I-26 and us being present out on I-26 has reduced people’s speeds. It’s made people more cautious.”

There is currently no planned end date for the “Safer 26 in ‘24” campaign. Motorists are encouraged to lower their speeds, avoid distracted driving, increase following distances and be courteous to other drivers.
