The first segment of the 5th Ave EL OPENED IN THE LATE 1880'S , running from a connection with the old BROOKLYN ELEVATED RR (MAIN LINE) ,at the corner of PARK & HUDSON Aves. , down Hudson Ave.,then down FLATBUSH AVE. after passing under the Fulton St. EL, to the LONG ISLAND RAILROAD TERMINAL at ATLANTIC AVE.. By 1890 the line was extended down 5TH AVE. to 38TH ST. , and in the early 1890's down 3RD AVE. TO 65TH ST. BAYRIDGE. This line also formed a connection with the CULVER LINE around the 37th st & 5th Ave. area. BY June 1 1940 all operations on the 5TH AVE. /BAY RIDGE EL was discontinued & this line was dismantled.
