I have fallen behind in my fall chores and this weekend was dedicated to splitting firewood needed for the winter.

I heat my woodworking studio with an older style Federal wood stove. It's perfect for keeping the area warm enough to work in without getting too warm. My friend loaned me her hydraulic wood splitter and it made pretty quick work splitting all of the bucked logs I had drying.

This splitter is easy enough for one person to use and the fact that I can tip it up makes it easier when splitting the larger rounds. It's definitely easier than swinging an ax.

That old saying about wood heating you up twice or thrice is true, although it's probably more than that when you consider the stacking and carrying.
