As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, it is very important to begin prenatal care and tests, especially glucose testing. Glucose testing is recommended for all women, but women who have a family history of diabetes, multiple gestations, or have a carbohydrate imbalance are at higher risk. The test requires the patient to drink a sweet drink, and then have blood drawn one hour later. The test results are received the next day.
