IWI's third webinar was held on February 22nd, 2024, where we explored the crucial topic of water management. In recent years, many First Nation communities have endured the devastating impacts of floods, droughts, and wildfires. Climate change is increasingly altering precipitation patterns, water storage dynamics within watersheds, and the movement of water across landscapes. These changes, including earlier snowmelt, rapid freshet, floods, and summer droughts, significantly affect the health and safety of First Nation communities, as well as the migration and spawning of salmon and resident fish. In this webinar, we had the privilege of speaking with Jonathan Boyd from the River Forecast Centre and Brian Holmes from the Upper Nicola Indian Band. Together, we explored the 2024 snow and water forecasts and engaged in a discussion on how First Nations can prepare for a spectrum of water conditions that communities may face throughout the year.

The IWI Webinar Series serves as a platform for Indigenous leaders, communities, organizations, and project teams to connect, share knowledge, and address challenges related to First Nation watershed priorities across British Columbia.
