Nasibollah and Sakineh, the son and daughter-in-law of Soraya, find themselves in a difficult situation. As Hojjat observes Nasibollah and Sakineh’s efforts, he feels that their support is consolidating their control over their mother’s life. This sense of jealousy drives him toward vengeful schemes. He decides to take revenge and, at any cost, to put Nasibollah and his family in a difficult position.

Over time, these conflicts create emotional and dramatic tensions in the story, illustrating the impacts of familial and social relationships on individuals' lives. The family's efforts to support one another, while simultaneously grappling with jealousy and revenge, symbolize the human struggle against life's challenges.
