Mir Jafar's full name was Mir Jafar Ali Khan Bahadur.
He was born in 1691 and his family was of Arab descent.
who came to India from the holy city of Iraq on the invitation of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
His grandfather Syed Hussain got the position of Qazi in the Mughal court.
And he married Aurangzeb's niece.
Due to this connection, Mir Jafar's family gained special importance in the royal court.
But fate had something else in store.
Over time the Mughal Empire weakened, and Bengal became a powerful state.
which was ruled by Nawab Ali Vardi Khan.
Mir Jafar joined Ali Vardi Khan's army and advanced rapidly.
He even became stronger in the court by marrying the Nawab's sister.
He eventually became a general in the Bengal army.
In 1756, Nawab Ali Wardi Khan died and his grandson Siraj-ud-Daula became the Nawab of Bengal.
Siraj-ud-Daula was a brave and stubborn ruler, taking tough decisions against increasing British interference.
But many people in the court were against him, the most prominent of whom was Mir Jafar.
The British took advantage of this situation. British Army Lieutenant Colonel Robert Clive made a secret deal with Mir Jafar.
Under this deal, Mir Jafar promised not to mobilize his army during the war.
And in return the British would make him the Nawab of Bengal.
On June 23, 1757, the Battle of Plassey was fought.
In the field, Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula had 50 thousand soldiers, 50 cannons and French allies.
While the British army consisted of only 3 thousand soldiers.
But when the decisive moment of the battle came, Mir Jafar ordered his army to retreat!
The Nawab was left alone on the battlefield. The small British army easily defeated the army of Siraj-ud-Daula.
The Nawab escaped with his life, but was later captured and killed.
With this, the British occupation of Bengal was complete.
And the foundation of the establishment of the British Empire in the subcontinent was laid.
After the Battle of Plassey, the British made Mir Jafar the Nawab.
But in reality he was only a puppet ruler.
All authority rested with the British, and Mir Jafar was crowned Nawabi only to obey their orders.
But the British soon removed it too as useless.
He was removed in 1760 and replaced by Mir Qasim as Nawab.
But when Mir Qasim also opposed the British,
So in 1763, Mir Jafar was made Nawab again. This time he was a completely powerless and weak ruler.
In the last days of his life, Mir Jafar suffered from severe illness, depression and remorse.
He had become a person looked down upon by his own people
. On 5 February 1765 in Calcutta he died of illness.
Mir Jafar's name is still considered a symbol of treason.
The man who sold his nation to the British for temporary gain,
But he himself was humiliated all his life.
His treachery not only ended the reign of Siraj-ud-Daula
Rather, he pushed the entire subcontinent into slavery.
! History teaches us that betrayal for temporary gain never pays off.
Even today when a person betrays his country, nation,
So people call him by one name… "Mir Jafar!"
