1985 IFMAR Worlds Tokyo part 1

Unique footage of the 1985 Worlds 1:8 in Tokyo. I have seen the ‘official’ IFMAR Worlds video, this is my personal take on the 1985 Worlds. As you now know, Pieter has 3 eyes, a left, a right and a middle eye, my video camera. This video was shot on Sony Video-8 tape. The race was held at a large parking lot of Tokyo Disney World, I remember it was extremely hot and humid that week…

This video, part 1, is about the Opening Ceremony and paddock impressions. Many youngsters then, like Ralph Burch, Art Carbonell, Rody Roem, Jakob Buehler, Sander de Graaf, Gil Losi Jr, David Lecat, Gary Culver, my younger brother Fons of AMB Timing was there too to look after the automatic laptiming with transponders, first time it was used for a Worlds! And many more. But also, some familiar industry legends like Gene Hustings of Team Associated, Mike Reedy and many more.

We were there with Rody, Ronnie and myself. After making the 2 previous Worlds main finals I had high expectations to make the final again. How that ended I will write about in part 2 of the 1985 Worlds. And about a court case with Pierro Muzio of OPS shortly before the Worlds…
