“We cannot simply transpose our thinking from the old geopolitics of energy onto the new geopolitics of energy, we will have to be a bit more creative” says Thijs Van de Graaf, an Associate Professor of International Politics at Ghent University. In this talk Thijs explores how peak fossil fuel demand poses significant geopolitical implications.

Thijs’ research covers the intersection of energy security, climate policy and international politics and he is author of Global Energy Politics (2020) and lead writer of the report A New World: The Geopolitics of the Energy Transformation (2019).

This talk was given at a TEDx event, independently organised by Carbon Tracker Initiative. Thijs Van de Graaf is an Associate Professor of International Politics at Ghent University. He was the lead author of the IRENA report on the geopolitics of the energy transformation. He’s also the author of Global Energy Politics, which was published this year by Polity Press.
