This is an orchestral interpretation of Electric Nocturne No. 81 by Garry DW Judd which was premiered at the International Composers Festival 2022. Conductor: John Andrews, Leader: Adrian Charlesworth.

"This piece was inspired by trips to the South Coast over the years and the changing ‘moods’ of the Channel. Sometimes calm and sunny, sometimes dark and dangerous, I’ve tried to describe the changing nature of the Channel in this piece.

The full title is Electric Nocturne No. 81 - La Manche (The English Channel) as it falls within the structure of my Electric Nocturnes project. These started as pieces for solo piano arranged in a series of ten books, each containing ten nocturnes in a grid structure, but it became an experiment in relinquishing control to the performer/interpreter. The first in each book (ie. 1, 11, 21 etc…) are inspired by the sea/water and Book 9 is the ‘Imaginary Book’ which allows complete freedom for the interpreter to stamp their own personality on the piece."

Recorded on 20th May at the De La Warr Pavillion, Bexhill-on-Sea. Many thanks to the members of the orchestra and the entire festival team, including the artistic director, Polo Piatti and director of operations, Sandra Goodsell who put in so much work to ensure that the festival was a great success.
