Here's a pretty good demonstration of Evansville new and old siren systems in action. It's also a good demonstration showing how bad CD&F radios are. For the past year, the city has been upgrading radios with new ones capable of two-way communication. The new system transmits data back to the operator, allowing the EMA to view test results without having to actually visit each site. The old system activates via two-tone, while the new one activates with DTMF. It only tests a brief alert cycle rather than an alert cycle followed by attack.

This is my second time recording this siren; located by West Terrace Elementary by the west side of Evansville. Last time it was still hooked up to the old system. There's also a 15V1T at USI's campus a half-mile away. I think it's the only siren with a CD&F radio in the system and, go figure, it's been having some strange issues. Seems like it can only catch the tones for attack. It used to be able to do alert at some point as well. Even cancellation tones can't stop it from running a full attack cycle. Oh what a shame...luckily this 7V8 is close enough to the campus if the 15V were to fail.

Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!
