Concept Art is about design before it is about art.
This video is a basic and simplified introduction to understanding design, particularly from the perspective of a concept artist. Most people misunderstand what a concept artist does in their day to day work. It isn't generally about making beautiful paintings or finished illustrations. It is about problem solving, design, and the raw creation of an object...pulling it from the realm of the imaginary, into the visible.

It is quite a magical process, but a process it is. In this short video lesson, I will break down in the simplest terms how I approach the design process, from the roughest blue sky thumbnail exploration, to the a final sketch concept that is then about ready for implementation in the final media. All of this is accomanied by a real life demonstration of me putting the principals to work while I design a prop for my Wizardly Wonders world.
