KESKUS International Estonian Centre - September 2024

All of the forming, rebar, and concrete that became the main focus over July has continued through August. The form work and rebar are being tied into place in preparation of a very large concrete pour scheduled for mid-September.

As concrete pours must be executed continuously and cannot stop until the designated pour break is reached, this pour will start at 7:00am on the appointed day and continue into the evening, rain or shine.

This will be the largest pour of the KESKUS project; estimated at 38 trucks of concrete. It is all the more an exciting milestone as it includes the floor of the KESKUS anchor tenant’s space, Northern Birch Credit Union.

In the video, the post-tensioning cables can be seen as they are threaded through the beams. These cables will be tensioned once the beam’s concrete has reached full strength, currently anticipated for mid-October. Down the road they will be tensioned a second time once the beams are loaded with the weight of the steel superstructure above.

After the massive concrete pour is complete, attention will turn to the grade beams at courtyard, on the western half over the TTC tunnels that were covered back up months ago with an engineered pad for the mobile crane. These grade beams represent the last of the structural concrete before the start of structural steel.

The second phase of the TTC tunnel remediation has been tendered and is before the TTC for approval to proceed – happily this no longer holds up the critical path for construction.
Off site, structural steel production is the primary focus as it IS the critical path on the timeline for opening celebrations of KESKUS.

Sincere thanks goes to the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario for its support of courtyard construction, read more about this generous support:https://www.estoniancentre.ca/post/fe....
