The philosopher-jurist Ibn Rushd, known in the Latin world as Averroes. He is famous for his refutation of al-Ghazzali. His ideas on Aristotle were quite popular in the West, but controversial at first causing people to be burnt at the stake. Fakhr al-Din al-Razi would refute some of Averroes ideas but also take up some of Neoplatonic thought, which Ibn Taymiyya sought to purge from the Islamic tradition as a reprehensible innovation (bid'a).
