Before working at @coffeecircle as a content creator, I was a professional barista at @thebarnberlin, where I learned to work with the highest standards. I’ve experienced both professional commercial machines and home espresso machines. Many home machines do a great job, and even some 150€ models can pull a decent shot.

That said, despite many of my peers—like @lancehedrick—rating cheap espresso machines well, I take a more pragmatic approach. If you’re considering getting into home espresso, a rattly plastic machine won’t make you happy. To make them work, you’ll still need a great grinder (which costs more than the machine), and without experience, these machines will just be frustrating to use.

My take? Start with pour-over. ☕ Many coffee professionals actually prefer it over espresso because it brings out more nuanced flavors. While espresso can do the same, a *great filter setup costs max 50€*, whereas a solid espresso setup will set you back significantly more.

In my opinion, you need to invest at least 800€ for a decent espresso setup—anything less, and you’ll likely be fighting with your gear. And let’s be real: *home espresso is about enjoyment.* Nobody wants to go through all that effort just for a mediocre cappuccino and a caffeine kick. There are far more efficient ways to get your fix.
