Paramotor: Mexico 2 Canada!

Описание к видео Paramotor: Mexico 2 Canada!

Paramotor XC from Mexican border to the Canadian border with Mark Huneycutt and Chuck Edwall.
It took us 9 days... 2 rest days and 7 flying days. I flew 1382mi in 39.5hr. On one flight we crossed through 4 states, and we crossed Utah in only 2 flights! Due to headwinds, Montana was the most difficult state to cross.
We had no support vehicles or pre-arranged support stops, and we always launched from where we landed. We had only each other and anyone in the paramotor community we happen to bump into. (❤ Brad Roper )
Along the way we utilized courtesy cars at small airports to fetch food. Sometimes we landed at Inns or gas stations, but mostly we landed at small airports. I had lots of wilderness camping spots mapped, but the weather ultimately dictates what happens. We were often staying indoors due to chance of being weathered out or extreme cold. We had full camping gear with us, but we only used it once in Idaho.
We flew dawn to dusk as much as the wind would let us. Sometimes the evening wind was too strong to allow a launch, or the gusts at our destination were uncomfortably sketchy. Mid-day thermals were the worst in Montana on our very last flight of the trip.
We were all very happy with our wing selections. We all chose the #ozoneparagliders viper XC. Mark and I were on 20m while Chuck was on a 24m. The vXC is the perfect wing for such an adventure. It behaves so well on launch and landing which is essential when you are loaded down with nearly your own body weight and the wind is gusty. In the air, it's fabulously stable and wonderfully efficient. Most of the time we were trimmed neutral for maximum distance per liter.
Mark and I flew on (modified) #nirvanaparamotor f-light 200's while Chuck was on a #scoutparamotor with the new Variomatic propeller. I had a 15L capacity and averaged 2.5L/hr below 6k' and 3L/hr on the higher elevation flights.
When we began the trip, it was ~90F. But by the time we crossed into Montana, it was below freezing! In fact, the minute we crossed into Montana it started snowing! Our coldest flight was going over top of the Missoula airspace; 17F! It was a record for all three of us... the air was... crisp.
Mark and Chuck both had pee-tubes installed, but I relied on my Olympic holding ability. There was only one flight that I truly thought I would burst. With great effort (and tremendous focus), I managed to hang out of my harness and pee straight down without incident.
At our destination, a Montana local, Canyon Hansen of #teamflyhalo ❤, very generously picked us up and hosted us while we showered, slept, and boxed up our motors to ship home. It was an incredible adventure and I still can't believe we succeeded so quickly. Mark and Chuck were wonderful wingman and I would do it all again with them... just give me a year to catch up on sleep first.
