LIGHTING IN “ROBERT FILLIOU 38” ✨🖼️🎨

In this stage of Robert Filliou 38, I am applying the first lighter shapes, introducing luminous accents that create a vibrant interplay of light and shadow—often referred to by the Italian term “chiaroscuro.” The word “chiaroscuro “(from the Italian chiaro, meaning “light,” and scuro, meaning “dark”) originated in Italy during the Renaissance. It was employed by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio to describe a painting technique that contrasts bright highlights with deep shadows, thus giving the illusion of three-dimensionality and dramatic depth in their works.

This painting is an imaginary portrait of the artist Robert Filliou, inspired by his involvement in the Fluxus movement and by the narratives of artists who have created their own museums. Notable examples include Marcel Duchamp’s “Boîte-en-valise,” Robert Filliou’s “Galerie Légitime,” and Marcel Broodthaers’ “Musée d’Art Moderne, Département des Aigles.”
