Motogadget M-Unit Wiring for Honda CB750 Cafe Racer Build Project Bike | Munit Install Guide | 16

Having laid out all of the electrical components under the seat of my cafe racer project in episode 15 in this episode I connect all of the wires to my M Unit for my CB750 Cafe Racer project bike.

Although I didn’t buy these separately, here are links to help you to find them 🙂
M.Button: https://ebay.us/TrHwJQ
Motogadget M-Unit updated version: https://ebay.us/h4R21B

Other things I used:

Bullet Connectors Kit 400: https://ebay.us/AZzf52
Spade Connectors Kit 900: https://ebay.us/YfWJZ3

I was very lucky to get a lot of Motogadget M-unit components included when I bought my Honda Cafe Racer project bike. These were the things that actually attracted me to buy the bike in the first place. They make wiring a custom bike up a lot easier especially if you have the matching switches and the magic M Button.

The Motogadget M.Unit makes a lot of the wiring very simple. Basically, it has inputs for things like light, horn, brakes and starting on one side with the outputs on the other. Using the M Button means that all of the buttons on the handlebar switches come in on one wire. The M Button sends different signals down the wire depending upon which button is pressed and the M Unit then sends out the appropriate power. For example, if you press the horn, the M Unit sends power to the horn so that it sounds. While it is doing this it has lights on the top that tell you where signals are coming from and where it is sending power to. This makes it great for fault-finding.

It also handles some things that would previously have had a separate device, such as the indicator relay. Depending upon which version of the M Unit you get there is also the possibility to program different effects for the brake lights and indicators.

I used 2.8mm spade connectors on the end of the wires that connect to the M Unit. I don’t like just putting wires straight into a unit like this, plus they look so much better when you inspect the wiring.

Overall I am very pleased with the way that the wiring has gone together. You always feel that you could have done it better, but this is probably the best bike wiring I have done so far. I can’t wait for the weather to improve so that I can start to use this bike in anger, but there is a lot more work to do before then.
