What's the difference between infer and imply? How do you know if someone is "inferring" something or "implying" something? It's important to know which is which! This quick video breaks everything down (and even includes a bit of word history trivia). The short answer: Infer is used to refer to making guesses based on indirect information. Imply is used to refer to hinting at meaning indirectly.
