The largest university in Ukraine, ranking among the top hundred educational institutions in the world, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), commenced its operations on September 1, 1898. Now, it is not only a place of learning for students and a haven for Kyiv residents seeking leisure but also an intriguing destination for the city's guests. The impressive grounds of KPI indeed offer much to explore!

The inaugural academic year began in 1898, but all works were completed only by 1901, resulting in several imposing buildings in the neo-Romanesque style, adorned with towers and spires. Interestingly, the towers on the buildings served not only a decorative purpose but were previously used for astronomical observations and experiments. The KPI buildings are a vivid example of the fashionable architecture of that era.

The first rector was Professor Kirpichev. Under his direction, the KPI park was established, now ranking among the top ten parks in Kyiv and making the institute's grounds not only appealing to students but also a popular recreational spot for Kyiv residents. The park was founded in 1903, with professors and students participating in tree planting. Some trees still bear memorial plaques indicating information about the person who planted them.

Over time, the institute grew and flourished, producing numerous high-caliber professionals, some of whom left an indelible mark on world history. In 1995, KPI became the National Technical University of Ukraine. Currently, the institute comprises over 20 faculties, with the number of buildings on the premises exceeding a hundred.

All structures are concentrated within a single student city, the largest in Ukraine, covering an area of more than 444 acres (180 hectares). The student city is equipped with all the necessary facilities for studying and leisure, including two medical clinics and four dozen cafeterias. Over the years, KPI has accumulated a series of legends, particularly popular among the student community.

TOP 3 fascinating legends about Kyiv Polytechnic Institute:
1. Within the KPI grounds, there exists a network of basements beneath the buildings and secret passages leading to the metro tunnels.
2. Among KPI students, there is a legend about three special trees forming a magical triangle on the campus.
3. Rumors have long circulated at Kyiv Polytech that somewhere in the campus, there is a nuclear reactor.
