Welcome to the Caribbean Shipping Lanes (CSL) Project, an initiative of the Shridath Ramphal Centre (SRC) at The University of the West Indies Cave Hill. Since its establishment in mid-2024, CSL has been at the forefront of supporting Caribbean nations in navigating global shipping regulations and advancing climate resilience. With critical backing from the United Nations Foundation, University College London, and the Belize Port Authority, the CSL Project works closely with Caribbean delegates and regional maritime entities to enhance the region’s technical participation in International Maritime Organization (IMO) negotiations, particularly around the 2023 IMO Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships. Our efforts include conducting technical analyses, stakeholder consultations, and advocacy for financing and capacity-building initiatives that ensure a just and equitable transition for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). CSL is committed to enhancing regional collaboration, enabling negotiators and policymakers to champion measures that align with the Caribbean’s economic and developmental priorities while advancing sustainable practices in shipping.
