Kazakh eagle hunters are trying to keep Central Asia’s fading falconry tradition alive. Kazakhs have a long history using eagles to hunt foxes, rabbits and even wolves, but locals say the younger generations aren’t interested in learning how to train or take care of the birds. More than 80 bird hunters gathered at the village of Syrymbet this year between November 26-28 for an annual competition, where competitors show off their hunting skills and the trusting bonds they have with their eagles.
