Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Soft Trac Two Trailer Breakaway Kit with battery charger. The breakaway system is designed to activate your trailer's breaks if the trailer would disconnect from the tow vehicle. The unit does come with a battery charger that ensures that the system's battery is always charged. The unit is already connected so the charger is already in there. It stows nicely right here I the side compartment internally in the battery box. This is your battery. This little guy right here is your charger. Again, it's already connected so the batter simply fits into the box.

The charger just tucks nicely down beside it. It stows nicely right there and then all the wires can feed out of the box. It's got a little divot created right here, a little cut out, so that way you can run your wires out and still fully close the lid. That's a nice design of the unit as well. This is a top loading case which is very easy to access from above. It's a weather resistant construction.

It's designed to protect the battery and the charger from moisture and debris. It's also going to come with a built in mounting bracket that offers easy installation, no drilling required. Simply clamps to the trailer frame with the included hardware, or it can fit around your jack post. Again, hardware's provided. That whole diameter is two and a half inches.

The unit can also be welded onto the trailer frame. You'll notice that right here there's a small hole so the lid is lockable. Padlock is sold separately. That whole diameter will accept a quarter inch diameter padlock shank, or excuse me, a padlock shackle. It's also going to come with your breakaway switch. This installs on the trailer's frame.

Drilling is required to get that installed, just attaches with a screw or a bolt. Hardware not included to get that attached. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant. The battery is a 12 volt seal lead acid battery. This is designed for one to three axle trailers with electric brakes. When it comes to the dimensions with the case, starting with the overall length, we're looking at close to overall five inches. The width of just the case we're looking at about three and seven-eighths of an inch. Then the height we're looking at about three and a quarter. The battery capacity is five amp hours. Please note that a breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a gross towing weight of at least three thousand pounds. Real quick I just want to go over the functions of the breakaway switch. This is a braided steel cable. It's coated. That connects to the tow vehicle. In the event of a trailer and tow vehicle separation, and if your safety chains don't do the job, this unit, the cable, the tow vehicle will pull the cable which will pull the pin out of the box, the wiring will actually activate your trailer's breaks. Which will bring your trailer to an eventual safe stop. The blue wire from the breakaway battery is designed to connect to one of the blue wires coming from the breakaway switch. The white wire form the breakaway battery gets spliced into the ground wire connection. The black wire from the breakaway battery gets spliced into the 12 volt power wire. The other blue wire from the breakaway switch gets spliced into the breakout put wire on your trailer. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt Soft Trac Two Trailer Breakaway Kit with the included battery charger.
