Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials at BWI-Marshall Airport showcase the new checkpoint automated screening lanes with computed tomography (CT) scanners that are now in use in time for the busy summer season. The TSA said the new units make it easier for travelers to grab a bin at one of four locations along the conveyor belt thus bypassing other travelers who need more time to place their items into a bin. The CT scanners enhance security because they provide a 3D image of the contents of carry-on bags, which enable TSA officers to more easily identify the contents of a bag, thus resulting in fewer bags needing to be opened.
