PENDLETON COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) -- Pendleton County Emergency Management said a missing mother and son have been found in their crashed vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies searched for Teresa Rick, 35, and her 8-year-old son Jake, after they didn't come home Tuesday night.

Their 2004 Chevy Trailblazer was found wrecked at Wright Road and U.S. 27 near Sharp Middle School early Wednesday morning. Investigators said Rick told them that she swerved to miss a deer, went down an embankment and ended up in a creek bed.

It was a difficult operation to get them out. A rope and pulley system was used to get the victims and the responders out of the creek bed.

A medical helicopter was called in to Rick to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. An ambulance took her son to Children's Hospital. Both were alert and talking.

Rick had no cell phone service. Her leg was broken so she couldn't go for help.
