During the Great War the Allies and central powers alike used narrow gauge railways to transport fodder, equipment, ammunition and building materials from rail heads to the front line. At the 2013 War and Peace Show the Apedal Valley Light Railway organised a display comprising a short length of track, a locomotive and wagon as part of the First War display to give a flavour of the British War Department Light Railways.
