Your vehicle is equipped with a catalytic reduction system designed to reduce emission levels from the exhaust of your diesel engine. This system relies on the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) that needs to be replenished at certain intervals.

Your vehicle’s exhaust emission system uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to operate properly.

The shelf life of DEF is limited, whether it is stored in containers or in the vehicle’s diesel exhaust fluid tank. There are a variety of factors that can contribute to reducing DEF’s shelf life, particularly temperature and duration. Your Titan Diesel Owner's Manual instructs how much DEF is needed to fill the tank when the DEF 25% warning light message is displayed based on temperature. Please see your Titan Diesel Owner’s Manual for specific cold weather DEF operating instructions and requirements.

As the DEF level in the tank changes, a series of messages are shown in the vehicle information display. Some of the messages are: DEF Low Refill Soon and DEF Low Limited Engine Power Soon.

This gauge indicates the DEF level and can be turned ON or OFF through vehicle information settings.

To show the DEF level in the vehicle information display:
1. Arrow to the settings
2. Use the arrow up/down function of the ENTER button to scroll to Meter Settings
3. Press ENTER
4. Select MAIN MENU SELECTION
5. Press ENTER
6. Press the arrow button to move to the DEF LEVEL
7. Press ENTER to toggle DEF LEVEL on or off

The gray bar shows the DEF LEVEL. When the gray bar is in the green all is good. The yellow shows the DEF level is very low. When it reaches the red, the engine power may gradually be reduced.

This warning light illuminates when the DEF level becomes low. If the warning light illuminates, refill the DEF tank as soon as possible. If the DEF level becomes too low, your vehicle will lose power and may enter an idle-only mode.

To refill the DEF tank:.
● First open the fuel-filler door and locate the smaller DEF cap to the right of the fuel cap,
● Turn the DEF cap counterclockwise to remove.

After filling the DEF tank with the appropriate amount of DEF:
● Install the DEF cap by inserting it straight into the DEF filler tube.
● Turn the DEF cap clockwise until it clicks into place.
● Close the fuel-filler door securely.

Please see your Owner’s Manual for important safety information, system limitations, and additional operating and feature information."
