The Green Revolution 2.0

ReSlope Global (RSG) is an enterprise founded by Moshe Alamaro, a retired MIT atmospheric scientist and aero/mechanical engineer. The enterprise seeks to alter semi-arid terrain worldwide and turn it into arable cultivable land.



The concept is based on the observations of semi-arid natural hilly terrains. When you travel in the US southwest, Southern Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East, you will see different patterns of vegetation on a hill with a slope to the north and a slope to the south. The northern slope is usually green and lush since it is partially shaded and therefore evaporation from the soil and transpiration from the plants (the combined term is evapotranspiration) is reduced. Therefore, rainfall is retained, allowing for vegetation growth.



ReSlope Global’s agenda is to change the terrain of semi-arid non-productive unutilized dryland by earthmoving to create north-south slopes to enable cultivation imitating vegetation partners on natural hills.



The agenda has developed an international collaboration with scientists in Italy, Kenya, India, Tanzania, Brazil, Nigeria, and Botswana. All are interested in the implementation of the new method in their respective countries. Scientists and engineers from the Netherlands and the US are providing expertise on earthmoving and agricultural economics.



Our experience so far is that raising government funding is challenging (actually hopeless) since government agencies are interested mainly in hyper-specialized research rather than providing funding to such broad integrative programs. Therefore, due to the appeal of the program to the general public and foundations, the agenda is to raise an initial total of $1.0 million in donations from the public and foundations through crowdfunding. The proceeds will be distributed to the international collaborators as seed funding, which is expected to be followed by funding from each respective government.



The enterprise requires R&D on issues such as climate patterns, soil and geochemistry, agronomics, earthmoving, and ecological impacts, to name a few. RSG will develop a “division of labor” so each research group will concentrate on areas of their competence. All knowhow will become an open source.



15% of the earth’s land surface area is semi-arid (more than twice of all United States’ land area). The enterprise has the potential to provide new arable land for food production, new jobs and economic development and help to feed the 1.1 billion people in semi-arid regions, the most vulnerable people on earth.
